Carbon accounting, also known as greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, is the process of calculating the emissions your farm produces, directly and indirectly, while also considering existing carbon stocks like vegetation.

A carbon account typically begins with a baseline year, providing a foundation to explore opportunities such as carbon projects or market access. After that, carbon accounts are usually updated annually to:

• Maintain data continuity for accurate reporting
• Track progress toward emission reduction goals
• Assess how changes in farm practices affect your net emissions

Our Carbon Accounting Services

At Planfarm TerraWise, we offer three tiers of carbon accounting services to suit your farm’s specific needs.

Tier 1: Emission Reporting

An introductory report designed to help you understand your farm’s emission profile. The report will provide a whole-of-farm emissions overview and highlight emission hotspots within your enterprise. It will also contain guidance on how to collect and store r data collection and storage. This sets the stage for a detailed carbon account in the future.

Tier 2: Carbon Account

A detailed, tailored carbon account showing both emissions produced and carbon sequestered to provide your net emissions figure. Your report will include:

• Whole-of-farm analysis
• Breakdown by emission scope
• Emissions intensity metrics (showing how efficiently you produce for each commodity)
• Key emission hotspots.

This report can be used to inform management decisions and provide data for supply chain reporting

Importantly, we will support you with data collection, ensuring you know what to track, how to track it, and how to set up efficient systems for ongoing reporting.

Tier 3: Carbon Account + Advisory

All the benefits of Tier 2, plus expert guidance to turn your carbon data into action. Using the insights from your carbon account, we will provide scenario analysis to explore emission reduction options and work with you to develop a customised decarbonisation plan tailored to your operation.
